Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet Foundation

Chanel Perfection Lumière VelvetMy skin is very temperamental in terms of finding the right foundations and most of the ones I’ve tried look particularly heavy even if they look perfectly natural on someone else. Chanel foundations are one of the few that not only blend in but also have a shade in their range that perfectly matches my skin. I’ve previously tried Vitalumière Aqua which is a more universal version of the Vitalumière. Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet challenges Perfection Lumière in a more lightweight formula. Now, I’ll spare you the story of how I meant to purchase it ever since it launched and move onto the review.

Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet, Chanel Vitalumière Aqua

The shade I use is B10 despise the fact that some sales associates insist on matching me to BR10.

Perfection Lumière Velvet shares the packaging format of Vitalumière Aqua which of course is not as luxurious but still quite eye-pleasing. Naturally I prefer the black bottle of Perfection Lumière Velvet though. You have to shake both up quite vigorously or no product will come out and then compared to Vitalumière Aqua, the formula of Perfection Lumière Velvet is more liquid, reminiscent of serum foundations.

Chanel recommends applying this foundation with your fingers which is not at all my favourite thing in the entire world but the effect is noticeably better that way so I tend to ditch my Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face. Simple reason being it has a liquid to powder finish and the warmth of your finger just tends to melt the product into your skin in a more invisible manner. Being a huge powder advocate, it feels a bit worrying to state but you can indeed wear this foundation without one as the finish is already airbrush. Additionally, it’s really the only foundation that I could wear without concealer as I find the colour correcting is excellent. Not to say this is a full coverage but if you need to build it up in certain areas, it goes up to high medium.

Of course, this won’t be a first choice for those with extremely dry skin as it won’t blend over dry patches but I find it sits perfectly well on my dry cheeks and nose. The only area where I get oily is my forehead and what really struck me about Perfection Lumière Velvet is that it keeps it matte the whole day. Well, not really matte as some oils might break through but only to add a subtle healthy luminosity.

I only set the foundation under my eyes and on my forehead with Hourglass Diffused Light and as you can see it's still nowhere near a flat matte finish

Have you guessed I’m a big fan of this foundation yet? I don’t wear it everyday as I’m still very much smitten by my Burberry Fresh Glow BB Cream, not so much Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue (thought I’d mention it briefly but for such a light base it looks really heavy), but whenever I need my makeup to stay perfect the whole day, I will apply this on. Have you tried Chanel foundations? Or what other foundation is your holy grail? I’d love to know!

  1. I love love this and the Aqua lumiere foundation too. They are my favourite and i have tried many. I also love the Compact cream version of the Aqua lumiere too as this gives extra coverage when needed. Thanks for the review xx
